Ever wanted to climb a Mountain...with ropes, harnesses and really wicked shoes? Well here’s your chance! Meet us at Mount Erie in Anacortes, Washington on Friday morning before checking in at Kulapalooza. This class will start at 8am and go until noon. After the class we will caravan to Kulapalooza!
Even if you've never been rock climbing outdoors or in a climbing gym, this 4-hour climbing class is for you. Our instructors from Adventure Terra will teach you the basics of Rock Climbing outside on real rock. If you're a more experienced climber there are intermediate routes to challenge you.
If you're a climbing newbie, after this adventurous course, you will be able to pass any indoor rock climbing gym’s belayer test and feel confident in taking the next step towards your own climbing adventures. If you're a more experienced climber, we have routes to challenge you as well. Mount Erie is the perfect location for an introduction to climbing.
If you would like to bring your own equipment it must be inspected by our instructor before use.
Climbing has become very popular in recent years and there are good reasons why. It is beyond fun and full of health benefits. It can improve your cardiovascular health, weight loss, increase muscle tone, flexibility, balance, coordination, and mental and physical focus.
For our intro to rock climbing course, there is no experience required. All participants will be required to sign waivers.
We climb in light rain and light wind. We do not climb in heavy rain, heavy wind, or any signs of lightning/thunder. It is often impossible for the guides to determine if a weather cancellation is necessary until the very last moment.
Estimated driving time from Seattle 1h 30m / Estimated driving time from Mt. Erie to Kulapalooza 2 hours
To get to Mt. Erie, take exit 230 off I-5 at Burlington and take SR 20 west for about 15 minutes. Eventually you will come to a roundabout that you will need to take a left on to remain on "SR 20" that also heads out towards Deception Pass (worth seeing on its own).
In a few miles you will need to turn right onto Campbell Lake Road. Mount Erie will be visible on the right. In a few more miles the Mount Erie Grocery marks the right-hand turn onto Heart Lake Road, & in one more mile the state road to the top will branch off to the right. Several miles up the winding road leads to the summit parking areas.
